How to Apply for Firefighter and Firefighter-Paramedic Positions with the Charter Township of Clinton

You must complete your profile, have a current passing score, and be active in the system by time of application.  Once you are on the list, please proceed back to our website to complete the application process. Lateral applicants are not required to have an EMPCO score.

At the time of submission of the application, all applicants shall have the following qualifications:

  1. United States Citizen.
  2. Attained the age of 18.
  3. Hold a valid Michigan Driver’s (or Chauffeur’s) License and must have a good driving record. Out-of-state driver’s licenses will be accepted for application purposes, but applicants will need a Michigan Driver’s License by time of hire.
  4. High School diploma or equivalent.
  5. Letter of Intent
  6. Resume
  7. Applicants are required to have one of the following:
    • A valid Fire Service Joint Labor-Management Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate, as endorsed by the IAFF and the IAFC
    • The Oakland County, Michigan, pre-employment physical agility test.
  8. In order to be considered as a lateral transfer, you must upload a copy of your fire department identification under ‘Other’ along with the other required documents with the application. 
    • Lateral Transfers: You must be employed by a governmental agency and be licensed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as a paramedic. Additionally, you must have Firefighter I & II certification from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. To receive benefits, the applicant must have a minimum of two (2) years of current, full-time continuous employment experience as a firefighter/paramedic at a governmental agency with the qualification specified above. Credit will only be given for fully completed calendar months of service.  A full month of service is defined as inclusive of the 1st through the last day of the calendar month.  
  9. Must be licensed as an EMT or Paramedic, with current BLS and/or ACLS Certification (if applicable), and have obtained Firefighter I & II certificates as recognized by the State of Michigan. After your first year of employment, candidates may choose to pursue a Paramedic License. The Department will fully fund the process, provided the applicant’s successful completion of classes and the National Registry Paramedic Exam.
  10. If offered the position, candidates must pass a physical exam, a psychological exam, drug screening, and background check.
