City of Troy Police Department
Police Officer (as of 7/1/07) salary: $40,396* – $ 66,023/yr
*Starting Salary dependent upon experience
The Troy Police Department is committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Troy. The Department enjoys an outstanding reputation within the community as well as with other law enforcement agencies.
The Troy Police Department is a full service agency of 135 sworn officers and 66 civilian personnel, serving a population of approximately 87,000 residents covering 34.3 square miles.
The Department is made up of the 4 divisions: ADMINISTRATION, PATROL, INVESTIGATION & SUPPORT SERVICES
Administrative Division
The Administrative Division is made up of the Chief, Deputy Chief, three Captains, Staff Inspections Commander, and the Emergency Response and Preparedness Commander. Together, they are responsible for budget preparation, establishment of performance objectives, long range planning, policy development, internal and employment investigations, emergency planning, and the coordination of department operations.
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division works 10 hour days, 4 days a week. The Division provides police service through traditional uniformed patrol and a variety of specialized functions such as:
- Traffic Safety Unit
- Directed Patrol Unit
- Evidence Technician Unit
- K-9 Team
- Bicycle Patrol Team
- Fatal Crash Investigation Team
- Alcohol Enforcement
- Tactical Support Team (SWAT)
- Motorcycle Unit
- Special Response Unit (HAZ-MAT)
Investigations Division
The Investigations Division is charged with the responsibility of investigating all criminal activity brought to the Departments attention. This Division is divided into 2 components; the Criminal Investigation Section and the Special Investigation Section.
The Criminal Investigations Section provides investigative services through the following functions:
- Investigative Teams
- Fraud and Financial Crimes Team
- Juvenile Unit
- Court Services Unit
The Special Investigation Section is comprised of many specialized functions such as:
- Special Investigation Unit
- Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force
- Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force
- Criminal Intelligence Unit
- Metro Detroit Identity Fraud Task Force
- Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team Task Force
Support Services Division
The Support Services Divisions is responsible for the various functions that support Department operations. The Division is comprised of the following sections and units:
- Communications Section
- Lock-up Section
- Community Services Unit
- Training Section
- Records Section
- Research, Planning, and Technology Section
- Property Section
