Entry Level Applicants:
Additional Information about Hiring Consortium

Results
All candidates passing the examination process will have their name placed on a Master List of all passing candidates. Each department will use this Master List to draw a customized Eligibility List that meets the department's traditional hiring criteria (e.g., education, academy attendance, experience, etc.). Passing candidates meeting the hiring criteria for all cities will have their name placed on the customized Eligibility List for each city unless you have limited your choices on the Test Application.

At the completion of the process, Empco will notify you of your results within 30 days. Please do not call.

Eligibility List
The Eligibility Lists to be developed from this testing cycle will expire in one year or less from its original date (except Troy which will last for two years). Some Eligibility Lists will be refreshed continually and some fixed as originally set by the municipality's Civil Service Commission, Act 78 or by depletion of the List.

Once your name is placed on a department's Eligibility List, it is part of a certification process. In some cases the List is certified by a Civil Service Commission. Therefore, we ask you to consider carefully your choices on the Computer Input Form of departments at which you are willing to work. Obviously, you do not have to accept interviews or employment where you do not want to work; but, careful selection of desirable departments will avert a number of calls/letters from departments in which you have no interest.

Interview With a City
When a department reaches your name on its Eligibility List, you will be contacted directly by the department and proceed through its normal employment application, interview and hiring process. By agreement between the participating departments, your file will be at only one city at a time. You are free to accept or reject a city's invitation for an interview or a job offer. If you are not hired by that city for any reason, your file will again be available to the next interested department. You will be returned to the Eligibility List in your original position.

Investigations
When a department wishes to proceed with your candidacy, it will conduct some, all or additional investigations and tests before and/or after an offer is made to you including: interview, background investigation, criminal record, driving record, drug tests, psychological examination and/or a complete physical examination, including hearing and vision tests.

Hiring
Congratulations! You have achieved your goal! When you accept employment with a department, you will automatically be removed from the Master List. To reinstate your name on the Master List, you must notify Empco in writing of your desire to be reinstated on the Master List.

Over 300 officers have been hired through this process since 1997.

It is your responsibility to notify Empco of any changes to the information you are providing on the Application (i.e., address, phone number, withdrawing for any reason, more college, completed the academy, etc.) for the effective period of this List.
